This fun and dynamic fencing class introduces young athletes to the exciting world of swordplay! Designed for kids ages 6-12, the course focuses on building coordination, balance, and discipline while teaching the fundamentals of fencing, including footwork, basic techniques, and safety. Students develop confidence, focus, and sportsmanship through drills and friendly sparring. Whether your child is new to fencing or looking to improve their skills, this class offers a supportive and encouraging environment. 

Kids are welcome to bring their equipment or be available from Active Studios for rent.

Instructor

The class is taught by Olha Kutsenko, a Ukrainian fencing coach based in New York with extensive experience training students, particularly in foil fencing. She focuses on developing coordination, physical performance, and sportsmanship through personalized coaching tailored to individual needs, aiming to help children succeed in international competitions. Olha is a qualified Master of Sports in Fencing and was part of the Ukrainian National Fencing Team from 2007 to 2012, earning notable achievements such as semifinalist at the European Championship in Porec, Croatia (2012) and multiple top finishes in the Championship of Ukraine. She has coached at the Modern Fencing Academy in Singapore (2019-2020), working with children ages 5-13 and designing training programs to enhance technique and performance. Additionally, she served as an athlete fencing instructor at RVUFK School of Higher Sports in Kyiv (2011-2013), where she also traveled with the children’s team to international tournaments. Olha holds a Bachelor’s in Fencing Coaching and Physical Education from the National University of Physical Culture and Sports in Kyiv (2013).
